Pre-Requisite:
Students enrolled in this classes MUST have taken the Songwriters class OR have a song that is completed and ready to be recorded.

Age range is 14+

Course Description:
The purpose of this group class is to provide students with the basic knowledge and tools needed in order to record their compositions on their home computer. This class will explore the concepts of how sound is produced, the differences in key microphones, recording setups and a brief tutorial of the popular music editing program Cool Edit Pro.

Sound Reiforcement Workshop

Age Range:
7 yrs old and up

Sound Reinforcement Class
Who should attend: Musicians, DJ's, anyone who runs sound in a church, school, organization or municipality, Take the guess work out of setting up and running your system properly. Become educated with the terminology used by professionals.

Learn the basic concepts of hooking up and running a simple to more complex sound reinforcement system referred to by some as a PA (Public Address System)
Session 1

A typical sound reinforcement system consists of three parts: 1. Input Transducers - Microphones , musical instruments which convert sound energy into an audio signal. You will learn about the different types of microphones and their special uses and placement.
2. Signal Processors ­ such as equalizers, mixers, amplifiers, which alter the audio signal. You will learn about powered, non- powered, DJ mixers and how they are used with different signal processors and amplifiers. Know the in and outs of your mixer to get the best sound.
3. Output Transducers ­ Loudspeakers which convert the audio signal into sound for the audience. You will learn about a single full range cabinet to adding a low frequency bass cabinet configuring the correct ohms to match the amplifier. Setting up a monitor system to the main system.

Session 2
This session will cover more complex systems in professional applications including multiple mixing boards, monitors and a vast selection of effects.
Compressor/Limiters, Noise gate, Reverbs, Delays, main and monitors systems setups up for band applications, low, mid, and hi frequency speaker cabinets & how they are used with crossovers, Advanced mixing techniques.

Music Theory Workshop

Age Range:
14 yrs old and up
This is a course for the music enthusiast who has an interest in the presentation of the fundamentals of music as they affect music performance, music listening and music understanding.
The purpose of this course is to: This course will provide the introductory theoretical background needed for the music consumer to actively participate in a variety of musical experiences. Active and passive participation in music is made more meaningful when the underlying basic theory of the music is evident.
pourse Objectives: This course will present the fundamental elements of music. The student will gain a practical familiarity with the fundamental musical elements through lectures and readings.
Content Outline: Topics to be addressed include, but are not limited to, notation and note names, key signatures, meters, rhythm, scale structures, tertian chord structures, basic musical terminology, and so forth.

Week 2: Note and Rest Values
Week 3: Rhythm
Week 4: Meter Signatures
SESSION TWO Week 5: Intervals
Week 6: Modes
Week 7: Major Scales, Key Signatures
Week 8: Minoi Scales. Triads

Instructional Activities: The student should be prepared to work through pertinent problems as they are presented. About three to four hours of study time per chapter is expected from the student. Additional time may be necessary if the student is in need of help from the instructor. Required Textbook Bssic Materials in Music Theory by Harder and Steinke
